General Maintenance

Congratulations on your purchase of your new Nuova Simonelli Coffee Machine. Before using your new machine we recommend that you read the user manual supplied.
The way you look after your equipment will result in a perfect cup of coffee always!
Here are a few guidelines we suggest to follow, to ensure it stays that way throughout the entire life of your machine.

  • Before making coffee always make sure that the machine has reached operating temperature. Before serving your customers always make a few ‘test’ coffees.
  • Use freshly ground coffee at all times and ground only the amount needed. At the end of the day store beans back in their bag, dispose of any left over ground coffee, clean out grounds chamber with brush and wipe inner bean hopper with a cloth. It is very important to check blades regularly and replace them as soon as signs of an irregular grind start to appear, as it is one of the major causes of a poor quality coffee. We recommend checking blades every 200kg.
  • Always purge steam wand before attempting to froth milk, to avoid milk drying up in and around outer surface of wand. Also purge and wipe down after frothing milk. Never re-heat milk, try to froth only quantities required by using small milk jugs. Frothing techniques vary and different types of milk will result in different density of froth. (e.g. full cream, skim, etc)
  • Group handles should be attached to group heads at all times so to keep them hot. If the machine has not made any coffees for some time, it is a good idea to run water through group heads for a few seconds to re-stabilise temperatures.
  • Back wash and soak your handles each day by following these simple instructions overleaf.

Backwashing Group Heads
  • Remove group handle from the machine.
  • Momentarily turn on brew switch. This will flush residual grounds and impurities out of the group heads. Using a small brush, clean the screen and group gasket.
  • Remove the filter from the group handle insert blank filter. (The one with no holes)
  • Add teaspoon of espresso machine cleaner for each group
  • Lock the group handle into the group head.
  • Turn on brew switch for about 10 seconds and then off again. This will help to start dissolving the cleaning solution.
  • Repeat this at least 5 times at 30 second intervals from each other. This is to be done on each group head. (Group handle stays locked in between repetitions)
  • Remove group handle and turn on brew switches to flush water through.
  • Remove blank filter from the group handle and replace it with standard filter basket.
  • It is advisable that prior to serving customers you make a few espressos to flush out possible cleaner residue left in the group.

Cleaning the Group Handles
  • Remove the filter baskets from the group handles. Prepare a small container with 2 teaspoons of espresso cleaner to about 1 litre of hot water. Let soak for at least 30 minutes. Wash and rinse thoroughly and reassemble.

We also recommend that you service your coffee machine every 6-12 months.
If a water filtration system has also been fitted by us, we recommend replacing the cartridge every 6 months.
